In 1871 he arrived in St. Petersburg and entered St. Petersburg University.

We haven’t found any of his photos of that time but we know what the uniform of St. Petersburg University students looked like: their jacket was black having blue piping and tabs, golden buttons with eagles on them, a coat was black and a service cap had a blue cap-band and dark green crown.
In 1871 he arrived in St. Petrsburg and entered St. Petersburg University. The buildings of St. Petersburg University built for 12 ministries founded by Peter the Great are located on the interface between the land and the water, and are inseparably connected with Vasilievsky island. The Pysical-Mathematical department was one of those, the graduates of which did not get high salaries and were not expected to have brilliant carees. It was studying Math and discoverihg its mysteries that attracted A.P. Kiselyov and gave him strength to overcome any hardships. He had to work hard to provide himself and pay for his education. Tuition was the main source of his income. To pay for his room a month rent he had to give about 50 lessons. Nevertheless he was an advanced sudent and managed to graduate from the university half a year earlier than the term was due, having received Candidate's Degree for his research in Higher Mathematics. The yuong researcher couldn't have done it, if it had not been for his teachers. A great influence on his personality was made by the professors and teachers of St.Petersburg University: Chebyshev P.F. Somov I.F. Korkin A.N. Zolotaryov E.I. Mendeleyev D.I. Sokhotskiy U.F. Petrushevskiy F.F.
