A.P. Kiselyov, a true servant of “the Queen of Science”, was interested not only in teaching Math but in great many things. He called those people happy who could feel enthusiastic about different activities. His interests were many-faceted and wide. Besides photography and chess he was keen on sports: hiking, cycling, skating, and playing football and tennis. He was one of the first people to own and drive automobile in Russia. He often went to Switzerland to hike. A. Kiselyov was a member of Voronezh Yacht Club and all his family was fond of boating. It was his idea to organize the first Sport Society in the city and he helped with arranging several competitions in field and track athletics and water sports.
The numerous portraits of Andrew Kiselyov show personality traits typical of a Russian intellectual. Spirituality and inspiration flickering in his eyes made his serious and clever face look very handsome. He was always dressed in good taste and his manners were refined. When joking, his nearest and dearest used to call him a dandy.
The Kiselyovs lived a happy and exciting life. Their house was always full of young people, their children’s friends. Photography, summer and winter sports performing arts were enjoyed by the young people. They arranged concerts, staged plays, issued home magazines.
The Kiselyovs were fond of music. Their daughters played the piano brilliantly. The works by their father’s favourite composers Mendelsohn and Skryabin were performed most often. A.P. Kiselyov preferred classical music but he listened to folk music with admiration as well.
The family was respected in Voronezh and in the village where their estate was located. In the estate A.P. Kiselyov and his wife arranged a school for village children. His wife also treated the village inhabitants when necessary.
After their children settled in St. Petersburg Kiselyov A.P. and his wife also moved there and he bought a block of 40 flats, a house, and a country house in Kuokallo near the country house of I. Repin, a famous Russian artist, and found themselves among the intellectuals whose creative work made the essence of silver Age of Russia Culture.
After the Great October Revolution his property in St. Petersburg was nationalized and the family moved back to Voronezh where they got only a tiny flat in the house which had used to be their own.
